My Goddess Getaways weekend had to be one of the best bliss’d ones ever! I am referring to the weekend I stayed at the Sheraton Suites in downtown Wilmington. I experienced the perfect wind-down to what was a very stressful power-packed month!
First off, the parking situation can prove to be a bit tricky — especially if you’re not native to Delaware! You have the option to pay the $12 – $16 parking fee offered by the hotel. Or you can try your best to find street parking (be advised that it’s in the heart of downtown, so parking is either taken or scarce).

The lobby was fairly chic. You can tell that this SPG brand (Starrwood Preferred Guest) take great pride in their appearance.. The check-in was smooth (although I’ve never really had a problem check-in to hotels), however their elevator system was the first I’ve ever encountered. Guest must use there key card to access their floor — or any floor above the main lobby! Talk about security!

The rooms, extremely amazing. The view from our 15th floor room was so breathtaking. You absolutely have to catch a sunrise and/or sunset before completing your stay. The transition of downtown Wilmington from dusk to dawn — is something straight out of a masterpiece painting.

The suites are equipped with a kitchenette and living room — adorning a microwave and fridge, sofa bed, plasma TV, crocodile patterned ottoman and matching chair — all boosting total comfort that is soothing and relaxing. There is a separate sleeping quarter (bedroom), fitted with a closet and plasma TV. This setup is so family chic and modern that it’s almost impossible to bring yourself to check-out. Our bed was an enormous king-size Sweet Sleeper bed. My son and his father played and watch Spongebob Square Pants in the living room area — as I napped soundly in the bedroom area, undisturbed. I was nestled, and what seemed to me — surrounded by pounds of white fluffy, soft, white clouds of relaxing bliss. I was able to steal a solid 4 hours of much needed rest!

The hotel is a nonsmoking one. Room service was quick and the food was deliciously satisfying. In fact, the food came from the coveted and popular Basil Bar & Grill. This is a must-experience venue if you are ever in downtown Wilmington. The ambiance — cool.

If you get a chance, visit the quaint Brandywine Zoo. I think it has to be one of the smallest zoos I’ve ever visited, perfect for infants and toddlers. It’s not overbearing or overloaded — yet it will appeal to even the most curious of toddlers. The collection of animals are definitely unique. The parking is great and free. The parking lot sits right in the center of a striking park area. So think picnic — and lots of fun running after that super fast toddler. It has such a calming appeal, rooted in amazing beauty. It’s a great way to spend the day — if you’re looking to venture outside of the hotel.
Delaware is small (called the Small Wonder), but its rich in culture and art. It is friendly and often quiet (total opposite of this fellow Brooklyn, NY native). Delaware is a perfect romantic getaway spot, yet it caters to families, R&R seekers and business travels alike.
Food and beverages, plus entertainment in downtown Wilmington can average affordable ($$) to pricey ($$$$). The surrounding business area (of the hotel) is reminiscent of a quaint and cozy town. The best dining locales are accessible only a few miles from the hotel.
